Monday December 31st, 2007 at 11 p.m. in the suggestive location of Piazza Santa Croce in Florence there will be the New Year's Eve Concert.

The VII Edition of the event, strongly desired and organised by Banca CR Firenze in collaboration with the Comune di Firenze and Winter in Florence and with the contribution of the Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina.On the 31st of December you can toast to the New Year in one of the most beautiful squares listening to the music by the Orchestra Filarmonica del Teatro Lirico Europeo.More than 80 musicians (45 in the tournèe in Italy) who for the quality of their performances, for the large number of productions and for their presence in prestigious festivals, are to be considered the most important on the European scene.The orchestra, founded in 1937 by Natan Rahlin, includes the whole classical tradition, romantic and modern repertoire with a particular attention to Ukrainian authors, in particular for Sergey Prokof'ev.This important activity based on the compositions of the extraordinary author, brought the group in 1997 the "Sergey Prokof'ev Prize”.The Florentine concert is directed by Maestro Giuseppe Lanzetta, who has with the orchestra a well long established collaboration. The programme of Florence's New Year's Eve concert, already presented with success in many cities of the world, proposes an outline that ranges from Rossini's music to Tchaikovsky, from Brahms to Bizet, to conclude with Srauss.Maestro Lanzetta is an internationally acclaimed musician with numerous worldwide tournèes to his name.Since 1981 he has been Musical Director of the Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina, with whom, sponsored by highly prestigious music institutions, he has performed about 1,000 concerts of various repertoire.Thanks to his intense activity conducting well known chamber and symphony orchestras, he is considered by international music critics as one of the most brilliant conductors of the younger generation.Since the first edition Maestro Lanzetta has been behind the concept and the efforts for the realisation of the New Year's Eve concert.

TRENO NATURA

Treno Natura is a relaxed train trip through the countryside south of Siena, from spring to autumn, these old-style trains depart on Sundays for the day through the Val d'Arbia, Val d'Orcia and La Crete. For those of you who interested in exploring the magnificent Siena countryside in all its grandeur and tranquillity, take a ride on the Natura Train. This seasonal adventure on a steam powered train takes you back to "another time" with its winding paths through the Sienese countryside. The trip begins in Siena and stops in Asciano and Monte Antico before returning to Siena.

A Itinerary through the Elsa Valley

Visitors coming from the direction of Florence should turn right after the town of Barberino to take the road for Certaldo and S. Appiano. After travelling for about three kilometres in the direction of Certaldo, you will come to the village of Petrognano, just past the turning for Vico d'Elsa. The road from Barberino almost immediately passes close by a lovely tower standing by a farmhouse at Petrognano. Other mediaeval buildings form part of the Venerosi Pesciolini villa and farm, which today appears in 16th-17th century style. The enchanting village also contains several architecturally interesting farm buildings that give a good idea of the £ascinating farm culture of this area. If you continue in the direction of Certaldo, you will soon come to the cupola of S. Donnino, built by Santi di Tito in 1597, and surrounded by majestic cypress trees. Its octagonal plan architectural structure reproduces the famous cupola, in miniature, of S. Maria del Fiore in Florence, created by Filippo Brunelleschi. About 16 km further on, you will come to the town of Certaldo. Another suggestive itinerary starts out from the turning off for Vico d'Elsa where, instead of taking the road for Petrognano, you should continue towards the town. You will almost immediately come to Pastine on your left, with the little church of S. Martino with its facade decorated with two fragments from an ancient Roman frieze. The road to Vico (which you will come to after another 4 km.) winds through particularly suggestive countryside, with long stretches of the route bordered by woodlands and with lovely views that reach as far as San Gimignano. You can enjoy another interesting itinerary by following the road to S. Appiano, after the turning off for Certaldo and Petrognano. You will reach this tiny village along a stretch of asphalted road that winds through pleasant hills planted with olive groves and vineyards and it is worth stopping here to visit the Church which is of notable historic interest. Once outside the village of S. Appiano, you can turn off at the crossroads for the Castle of Poppiano and take a steep and narrow road that leads to the „Il Poggio" farmhouse, one of the most beautiful and interesting houses in the area. After returning to the council road, continue along it for about two km. until you see the enchanting mediaeval village of Linari at the top of the hill in front of you; this can be reached by turning off the main road and taking the steep, but short, road up to it, lined with olive trees. Afterwards, the S. Appiano road will soon take you back to Via Cassia from where you can continue for the main Florence-Siena motorway.

Corte Cavalli is a holiday farm near Certaldo, in the province of Florence. Certaldo, the birthplace of Decameron author Boccaccio, is a town of Tuscany, Italy, in the province of Florence.

Heading southwest, it is 50 minutes by rail and 35 minutes by car from the city of Florence. Heading north, it is 25 minutes by rail from Siena.

The town of Certaldo is divided into two districts. The upper one, called Certaldo Alto or Certaldo Castello, is also the oldest one. It is located on the top of the hill and is surrounded by strengthening walls where the gorgeous medieval citadel is included. The lower one, called Certaldo Bassa, is more modern and is essentially the industrial and business centre of the town.

The town hosts several festivals a year. The largest and most famous is Mercantia, a week-long party in Certalo Alto. It involves numerous street performers from across Italy and Europe.
